The Africa Research and Impact Network (ARIN) will contribute to the upcoming BIOCAM4 Work Package 2 (WP2) Workshop, scheduled for June 23, 2025, at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), Tulpenfeld 6, Bonn, Germany. This convening is part of the broader BIOCAM4 initiative, a transdisciplinary research effort aimed at enhancing the measurement and effectiveness of Nature-Based Climate Actions (NBCAs) in delivering co-benefits for climate, biodiversity, and communities.
Drawing from its work in Kenya’s Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), an ecologically diverse region spanning upper, mid, and lower catchments, ARIN will provide field-based insights to refine methodologies for assessing NBCA effectiveness. Specifically, ARIN will support the development of interview guides and survey instruments designed to evaluate community-level outcomes, ecological functionality, and adaptation impact in areas facing environmental pressures. These tools will contribute to BIOCAM4’s comparative research across East Africa and Central America, ensuring that locally relevant solutions are integrated into broader policy frameworks.
This participation highlights ARIN’s commitment to locally led approaches and the advancement of Global South leadership in climate governance. By leveraging context-sensitive evaluations, the network aims to strengthen evidence-based decision-making that prioritizes community agency, ecological coherence, and long-term resilience.
BIOCAM4’s broader objectives include mapping global trends in NBCAs, conducting place-based studies, and fostering policy engagement with institutions such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and international climate finance entities. The initiative is also committed to strengthening South–South collaboration, ensuring that leadership from regions most affected by climate change plays a central role in shaping sustainable solutions.
The workshop will focus on aligning efforts across country teams and thematic areas, ensuring coherence in methodologies and stakeholder engagement. Participants have been invited to reflect on their focus areas, challenges, and priorities, particularly in integrating climate, nature, and community goals. Discussions will examine progress, identify best practices, and define strategic objectives for the next phase of implementation.
This workshop presents a timely platform for exchanging aspirations, clarifying roles, and reinforcing collaboration across the BIOCAM4 network. ARIN looks forward to engaging with partners to share accessible insights on ongoing work and to identify key priorities for the next phase of implementation, ensuring that locally driven climate strategies continue to shape effective, measurable outcomes.
