Invitation to the virtual African Regional Urban Disaster Risk Reduction Research and Policy Workshop

March 31, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm UTC+3

The African Research and Impact Network (ARIN) is inviting you to participate in a virtual Tomorrow’s cities’ African regional Urban DRR Research and Policy workshop co-organized by Nairobi Risk Hub and UNDRR to be held on Thursday 31st March 2022 between 2:00p.m-4:00 p.m. East African Times (EAT).

ARIN is the regional DRR research and policy dialogue convener for Nairobi City Risk Hub under the Tomorrow’s Cities Hub funded by the UKRI’ Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF), 2019-2022. The overall aim of the Tomorrow’s Cities Hub is to provide the cities with the capacity and impetus for a shift from a crisis response mechanism to that of better multi-hazard management and reduction of risks.

This regional workshop aims to facilitate sharing of experiences and lessons from the invited African cities (see attached concept note) and catalyze learning in urban disaster risk research, policy, and practice in Africa. The regional workshop targets local government officials in charge of DRR and resilience, policy and research practitioners, and other stakeholders.

The key speakers include:

  • City disaster risk and resilience representatives drawn from cities in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Selected disaster risk and resilience experts who will share research outputs and implications on policy and practice on disaster risk and resilience building in urban Africa

The expected output is a policy advisory and the expected outcome is peer learning around best practices in risk reduction and resilience building among the African urban settings.

We look forward to your participation and contribution.
